The side steps have been in the loft since I started the rebuild five years ago. The've rotted from the inside out in numerous places and in all honesty are past it. Nonetheless, the perforations have been Mig welded up and ground down. They'll be submersed in BiltHamber DeoxC and hopefully this'll give them a few years longer. First job is to remove the powder coat. It was a good thick coating, but mounted under the sides, inevitably the plastic becomes scratched through then moisture gets between plastic and steel. Rust. The end caps are only sealed with plastic plugs. Water / silt gets in and they rust from inside out.
Steps were stripped of the old coating, wire brushed with an angle grinder, deox'd and then re-powdercoated.
